Whipping Twine & Telltales

Protect rope ends from fraying using whipping twine or melting
Rope ends should be tied off with whipping twine to protect them from fraying. For a simple, flat whipping knot, whipping twine (braided and waxed yarn) is used. The length a whipping knot should be at least the same as the rope diameter. A flat whipping knot doesn't increase the rope end much, so the ends can continue to run freely through thimbles or blocks.
